Biography
Rydrea Walker is a Deaf filmmaker, media executive, and the Founder & CEO of WarriorsGate Entertainment, Inc., a Deaf-led media company focused on film and television production, live sports production, and original streaming content.
Walker was born and raised in Alabama. Born with bilateral profound hearing loss, he is the first generation Deaf member of the Walker and Billups families. At age seven, he transferred to the Alabama School for the Deaf, where he excelled academically, graduating as salutatorian of the Class of 2015.
Walker's interest in filmmaking began in childhood, watching his father film family gatherings on an old camcorder. At 17, while still a student at ASD, he founded his first production company, Walker ASL Pictures, and released his debut short film, Bob Movie (2013), which earned third place for Best Short Film at the Jacksonville State University Technology Fair. He went on to direct and write several more short films, and produced the feature-length Battle of Evil: Part Two.
Walker earned an Associate of Applied Science in Design and Imaging Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology through the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in May 2019. The following month, he was one of seven students who co-founded Morpheyes Studio, a Deaf-led creative production collective. He was subsequently accepted into the Cinema and Television Arts program at California State University, Northridge.
In 2017, Walker rebranded his growing production company as WarriorsGate Entertainment, with a mission to build Deaf-led media infrastructure and challenge limited industry views of Deaf talent. WGE now operates six divisions: WGE Studios, WGEPlus.tv, WGE Sports, SignedCredits, the upcoming WarriorsGate Film Festival, and Rydrea Walker Studios. The company sits beneath Rydrea Legacy Holdings, LLC, the Walker family's private holding company.
In 2023, Walker served as Grip, Second Assistant Camera, and Drone Operator on Jesus: A Deaf Missions Film, one of the largest-budget Deaf-led films produced to date. That September, right after wrapping on the film, he joined Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) as a Video and Events Specialist, leading video editing, webinar hosting, and live stream production — a role he continues in today. His 2025 short film ERASED — produced by WarriorsGate Entertainment and Naptown Films — was an Official Selection at the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge, where it received a Best Awareness nomination presented by Amazon MGM Studios, and was one of the festival's top selections screened at the Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis.
